USS Enterprise Model Build – Part 2 – First steps

This week all the components arrived and I carried them all down into my little workshop in the basement.

Preparation

Based on some helpful youtube videos I built a cardboard enclosure to prevent spraying the whole room. I also purchased a FFP3 filter mask so that I don’t breathe in all the airbrush fumes.

I also installed a lamp as the standard neon lights in my basement really suck. Yup – I put it on a paint bucket. It looks wonky but works….

Prevent light from shining through

So first of all I started by giving all the parts that are exposed to lighting a black coat of paint. This was my first time using an airbrush and it worked really really well.

All the pieces that needed a black coat

In order to ensure that the light reflects well inside the model, the whole thing had to be painted again with white.

White coat

I hope that two coats of paint will be enough to ensure that no light shines through the model in the end.
