USS Enterprise Model Build – Part 1 – What to build ?

As I am currently going through a burnout treament I was reminded to focus and find things to do that make me happy. I remembered how I used to build these world war II model kits from Revell and how much I loved doing that. I still remember having built these:

I then moved on the building all kinds of Star Wars plastic models. Some of my favourites were:

So after some consideration I decided to build the original series Enterprise 1701 1:600 model kit from Revell complete with an optional deluxe LED lighting set that I found on ebay. This adds blinking position lights, pulsating impulse drive as well as the rotating buzzard nacelle effects.

I purchased my particular model at a local model shop that has a great selection. Check them out if you like at https://www.suter-meggen.ch

To go with the TOS Enterprise or the new one ?

At first I wanted to go for the new J.J. Abrams Enterprise but then decided to go with the one that I grew up with as a kid : ) The new Enterprise also seemed to have a ton of detail on the saucer and hull section that would need to be airbrushed on using a special decal (aztec decals).

As total airbrush beginner I did not feel comfortable doing that just yet. But who knows – maybe when I’m done with this enterprise I’ll tackle that topic next : )

To airbrush or not to airbrush

I also decided to do this project using an airbrush with which I have no experience whatsoever. I did not start a tedious online research about which airbrush to get but just boldly went ahead and got the barebones standard airbrush set from Revell as it was on sale at my local store.

The set comes with an airbrush, some thinner and cleaner and some accessories.

So I ordered the USS Enterprise set with all the colors that are needed for it as well as the LED kit from Ebay and am now waiting for all the stuff to be delivered.

So here I am twiddling my fingers waiting…..
