USS Enterprise Model Build – Part 7 – LED lighting kit part 1

When ordering the deluxe LED lighting kit the vendor (Gary) told me that soldering and electronics know-how would be required or at least very helpful. As I have a friend who is well versed in electronics I decided that I’d always have him as a backup just in case.

Deluxe lighting kit

Once the package arrived I immediately saw that indeed soldering know-how is needed. The components for all the different electronics boards came separately packed in plastic bags but everything needed to be soldered together (Gary told me so beforehand). Gary also provides a good set of printed instructions.

Main components

So off I went to meet my friend so that he could help me. There are three circuit boards that need to be built:

  • Flashing circuit for the red, green and white position lights
  • Fader circuit board for the impulse engines
  • Bussard circuit board for the rotating nacelle lights
position lights flasher board (goes into the saucer section)
Fader circuit for the impulse drive (goes into the saucer section)
Cicruit board for the nacelle lighting (fits into the main hull)

Installation

We then soldered the position light LEDs together in the top and bottom saucer sections:

First we connected all the LEDs

Once that was done, the circuit boards for the flashing lights and the impulse drive were placed into the saucer section and glued in place with hot glue.

Flasher and fader circuit boards placed in the saucer section and connected to the LEDs in the top and bottom pieces
The LEDs in the saucer section need to be glued to a round piece of plastic and the also point up and down into the saucer sections

This is as far as we got so far. Next time we’ll tackle the nacelle lighting.

  1. Hi, I am Gary the vendor of the lighting kit, first may I thank you for your link to my kit, and second on your build blog. Unfortunately I was very ill in April so suspended my eBay listing until I was better and because of this the link to my kit is broken, is there any way you could post the link to my re-listed kits please.
