DEAD PEDAL FROM FORMYTESLA.COM
I ordered this dead pedal from www.formytesla.com in October 2015. I had previously ordered the Model S floor mats from the same vendor which were of great quality.
The pedal did look very nice on their website and also looked nice when I got it. I immediately noticed that the black stripes are not rubber but some sort of very thin plastic trips but I went ahead and installed it right away.
It comes with adhesive tape strips that are already applied to the back. This is how the product looks new:
Unfortunately the black strips started to fall apart after only a couple of weeks. This is how the pedal looked after three months:
I contacted the vendor and immediately got a replacement shipped to me. So far so good. The only difference was that this time around the whole thing was covered in a thin plastic protective shield. It looks like the same stuff that you can put on the front of your car to protect it from getting chipped by stones.
When i tried to remove the old pedal I had a very hard time. Once I got the thing off ( I actually ripped the original plastic dead pedal out of its socket) the original pedal was covered in a ton of leftover adhesive tape which took ages to remove. In hindsight I should never have used all the adhesive tape strips that the pedal came with.
I installed the replacement pedal by just using two adhesive strips. Unfortunately the new unit – even though it looks very nice – turned out to be very slippery when whet. It just did not feel comfortable at all. So I had to remove it again. I also ended up having to re-order the original dead pedal from Tesla as my original one now looked really messed up.
I complained and the vendor gave me a full refund which is great customer service. However, I can not recommend this product. A dead pedal must be sturdy and should not fall apart on you after such a short use. Covering it with protective film is a short term solution which does not fix the underlying problem.
